We invite you to submit a proposal, or to share this request with your network, for a workshop at the Alliance for Nonprofit Management conference to be held online on October 11-13, 2021. The Alliance is the national voice and catalyst for the field of nonprofit capacity building. We improve the effectiveness of individuals, groups, and organizations who help nonprofits and communities achieve positive social change. We are seeking proposals that address our conference theme:
The Journey Forward – Putting Our Values into Action This past year required the social sector to adapt to ongoing changes brought on by the COVID pandemic, renewed cries for racial justice, economic uncertainty, and attacks on our very democracy. The role of capacity builders is increasingly critical as the sector moves toward recovery and renewal. Our efforts for forward motion must be grounded and centered in equity, justice, and inclusion as we equip ourselves and our clients for the next steps. Not only will this journey require us to think strategically about how we do our work, but we must also take an honest look at who is engaged in the work. We must ask what leadership looks in the sector as we dismantle white supremacy and shift power in communities.
This will be our second online conference. Last year’s conference attracted ~175 people including a range of new and seasoned capacity builders. We seek conference workshops that will challenge and support us as we advance on our own lifelong learning journey forward. Alliance conference workshops are intended to improve the practice of capacity builders, including consultants, coaches, capacity building organizations, foundations/funders, researchers, graduate students, and nonprofit leaders. Sessions should NOT be geared to nonprofit staff and board members. We are especially interested in workshops that address the following topics:
· Weaving racial equity/justice into all kinds of capacity building work
· Shifting power to community voices in capacity building
· Evolving leadership models which may include equitable succession and transition practices, shifting power dynamics, etc.
· Working with nonprofit leaders – staff and board – who are resistant to addressing equity
· Changing models of nonprofit governance
· Equitable evaluation/performance management
· Changing role of capacity builders – change agents, partners, etc.
· Consulting practice development and how it is changing.
